Damouchari, Pelion

A hidden paradise between land and water

A Natural Harbor Full of Stories

Damouchari is the only natural and safe harbor on the eastern coast of Pelion and also the smallest. Nestled between the port and the beach, it once served as a key point of trade for the villages of Tsagkarada and Mouresi. Some remains of the old castle walls are still visible today, along with the ruins of the Turkish customs station.

A Place for Every Season

This serene spot perfectly blends mountain and sea, making it ideal for year-round excursions. Even the most discerning travelers are charmed by its authentic character and unspoiled beauty.

Approaching by Foot

One of the most beautiful walks in all of Pelion is the traditional stone path from Tsagkarada down to Damouchari. As you descend, the roofs with stone shingles appear through the quiet olive grove, and the calm sea gently laps against the thick pebbles of the southern bay. In this season, just a couple of small boats float in the crystal-clear harbor waters, where plush algae glow beneath the surface.

A Place with History

At the cape of Damouchari lie the ruins of a Venetian castle, built to protect the local population from pirate raids. The Venetians had also constructed a traveler station and storage warehouses in the area. Much later, locals used these same buildings to store goods brought in through the small port.

Gentle Tourism in a Timeless Setting

Since the 1970s, tourism started to appear, mainly with German visitors — but Damouchari never turned into a mass-tourism destination. It remains a charming, quiet fishing village in East Pelion, especially beloved by boat owners for its peaceful bay.

Life by the Sea

The northern bay still serves as a small harbor, with colorful fishing boats and yachts gently rocking in the water. Scattered around the village are traditional houses, cozy guesthouses, a handful of tavernas, and rental rooms — all keeping the atmosphere relaxed and authentic. In summer, cars can only reach a certain point, and parking might be a challenge.

A Hiker’s Delight

One of the most popular hiking routes in the area leads from Agia Paraskevi to Damouchari. It’s an easy and scenic walk, ending in a picturesque bay where stone-roofed houses peek through the olive groves.

Getting There

Damouchari is located just below the village of Tsagarada. A well-paved road brings you down through lush forests and ends at the sea. Tsagarada itself is 47 km from the city of Volos and offers breathtaking forest routes for those arriving by car.

On Foot – A True Reward

Approaching Damouchari on foot, above the cobblestone path, reveals one of the most picturesque coves of the Aegean. The view is simply unforgettable.
